Next Monday European Commission representatives are to hold last chance talks with the international organisation ATC EUC reps and try to convince them that there is no need to resort to such drastic measures to make their point.
The talks are to begin on October 7 at 3 p.m. in Brussels. The controllers we have talked to have assured us that there will definitely be no strike next Thursday – it has been suspended.
‘If we can’t come to an agreement with the Commission, we will go on strike in late October or early November,’ we heard from one of them, who wished to remain anonymus.
Air traffic controllers from 26 countries were to go on strike on 10th of October to draw the public opinion’s attention to excessive cost-cutting in airlines, undermining safety. Controllers from the following countries announced their participation: Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Ireland, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and Eurocontrol Maastricht.
